Kurt Schlichter is a lawyer and author. More important, he is a retired Army colonel with experience abroad in the Middle East and at home in the Los Angeles riot. When he says that Pete Hegseth, former infantry major, is qualified to make a superb secretary of defense, I listen intently.
We have had quite enough of the “perfumed princes” in the Pentagon, as the late highly decorated Colonel David Hackworth termed them. He was referring to officers with stars on their shoulders but jelly in their spines. And we’ve also had quite enough of the likes of Robert Strange McNamara and his armchair geniuses, who knew how to micromanage but not how to lead.
Schlichter says give Hegseth the backing he needs and he’ll do the job. Roger that.
