Autopsy Rate Falls To 7%

Only 7% of patients who die in hospitals have autopsies. The rate was above 60% in the 1960s. It had to be for the hospital to be accredited. CAT scans, MRIs, and other modern tests are helpful. But autopsies often reveal unsuspected findings. Now no one pays for them – who wants to find mistakes? A major source of medical knowledge has disappeared.
