Alec Baldwin and armorer charged with involuntary manslaughter for death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, wounding of director. They face 18 months in jail. Was the revolver a classic .45, firing pin on hammer, may fire if hammer pulled and released? Or was it a modern .45, with a transfer bar to prevent firing unless the trigger is pulled?
But in either case:
1) Baldwin pointed the gun at Hutchins, then fooled with it. To me this is at least voluntary manslaughter, and may even be second degree murder – depraved indifference to human life.
2) Armorer and assistant director allowed live rounds on the set, then allowed Baldwin to use a revolver loaded with live rounds. Both actions demonstrate gross negligence – perhaps voluntary manslaughter.
“The gun is loaded, even if it isn’t.”
