A wise person is willing to learn from anyone, whether it is a clergy member, a professor, a politician, or the guy repairing the garage door. Wisdom is wisdom, no matter what package it comes in. In this case, a large helping of wisdom comes from a musician:
• Grammy-nominated artist and lead singer of Five For Fighting, John Ondrasik, is using his talents to bring attention to the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan after the Taliban takeover. He recently released a song titled “Blood On My Hands” after witnessing the crisis unfolding in Afghanistan as the Taliban took over.
Note that he does not say “blood on our hands,” which diffuses guilt, but “blood on my hands,” which makes things all too personal.
Ondrasik stated, “Look, we’re all Americans…If I go over to Europe, they’re not going to say, ‘Who did you vote for?’ They’re going to say, ‘What did you guys do? How did you abandon those people?’ So it’s all on us. We elect our leaders.”
He concluded, “At the end of the day, it really is about doing your part, each one of us. In whatever area we can. What kind of world do you want?”
There it is. It’s all on us. We elected the people who, in our name, bugged out, leaving uncounted hundreds – perhaps thousands – of Americans and friendly Afghans behind, while relying on the tender mercies of the Taliban.
If there is more effective way to dishearten our friends and embolden our enemies, I have yet to learn of it. If there is a way to bring more shame on our country, I hope I never hear of it. Well, what kind of a world do we want?
