US will send 31 M1 Abrams tanks to Ukraine. Must include personnel to maintain them, teach how to use them. Inevitably some US personnel will be in combat. If Putin is losing or feels insecure, what will he do? The Russian bear is armed with nukes. Why poke it with a stick? Besides, how many functional tanks, and how much critically needed ammunition, do we have left?
