In a free country, leaders must please the people or they will be out of office. In an authoritarian country, leaders must at least pretend to be doing what the people want. But in a totalitarian country, leaders do as they please and openly dare the common people to do anything about it. They demonstrate their power by their self-serving arrogance. They mock the people’s weakness and plunge recklessly ahead with their own agenda.
