California, already the highest tax state, plans a wealth tax on the rich: tax total worldwide assets of a person. Is taxing out-of-state, out-of-US assets constitutional? Surely many rich will leave the state, so the next step: an exit tax. This would clearly be unconstitutional, but who knows what courts will decide?
Taxation, like all forms of power, is addictive. Larger and larger doses are required to produce a “high.” The only answer: an intervention. Vote the power addicts out of office.
